Savion is the co-founder of YAK Films, an Oakland-based international media company recognized for pioneering innovative street dance cinematography. Over more than a decade, he and his co-founders (Kash Gaines & Benjamin Tarquin) have built the YAK brand into a global phenomenon, capturing legendary dance artists such as Les Twins, Lil Buck, Bones the Machine, and Lil Kida in diverse urban environments across the US, Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean. A committed educator and mentor in his East Bay community, Savion is deeply invested in developing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) programming for young learners. He teaches visual and performing arts, robotics, and coding to students in Oakland and beyond, with an emphasis on creativity, collaboration, and technical skills. His classroom and workshop initiatives empower youth to explore technology through hands-on building, dance, filmmaking, and storytelling.
Recent directorial credits include Dear Black Girls (commissioned by the San Francisco Dance Film Festival), Ride Out To Vote, and the short film FREE—the third installment of the acclaimed trilogy created in collaboration with Sozo Media for The Just and The Blind project, which premiered at Carnegie Hall to a sold-out audience. Continuing his commitment to dance film, Savion’s latest short, WEAVERS, has been selected for screening at the upcoming San Francisco Dance Film Festival.
Originally from Bretagne, France and raised in Oakland, Savion’s roots are longstanding in the East Bay, where he continues to teach and produce for a variety of organizations, including Youth UpRising, the Turf Feinz, Destiny Arts Center, and Youth Speaks. Through all facets of his work, he prioritizes community empowerment, spotlighting stories and movements that uplift youth, artists, and local change-makers.
