KEVIN PETER HE

2026 SOZO FELLOW
ARTIST, DIRECTOR, WORLD BUILDER
BROOKLYN, NY

Kevin Peter He is a New York-based, Shanghai-raised artist and director working across performance, installation, and cinematic media. His live virtual cinema practice examines how systems of progress reshape perception, embodiment, and human connection. Treating cameras, sensors, game engines, motion-capture systems, and mechanical devices as active performers, he creates works in which bodies and images are continuously translated, mediated, and reconfigured.

Drawing on backgrounds in dance, film, and virtual production, He builds sculptural instruments and responsive environments that convert live movement into image, sound, light, and virtual space. His work often foregrounds the operations that remain invisible in technology: calibration, delay, delegation, feedback, and the labor required to produce immersion. In doing so, he asks where agency resides when perception is distributed across bodies, tools, operators, and computational systems.

He is a Collider Fellow at Lincoln Center and an artist member at Onassis ONX. He was previously a resident at NEW INC, Pioneer Works, and ASU MIX Center, and served as Creative Director of the virtual production studio ZeroSpace. He holds a master’s degree from NYU ITP, where he also taught as an adjunct professor. His work has been performed, exhibited, and presented at Lincoln Center, New Museum, Gray Area, MUTEK Montreal, Southbank Centre London, Tribeca Festival, Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival, Festival Internacional de la Imagen Bogota, and elsewhere.
